4AD Forages

Celebrated record label 4AD has launched a new podcast series featuring guests from across the decades in conversation about their lives and interests. ‘4AD Forages’ premiered in October 2022, with new episodes arriving on the first Monday of every month.

Musicians including Pixies drummer Dave Lovering, Latin folk musician Helado Negro, and Rowland S. Howard collaborators Jonnine Standish and Genevieve McGuckin are among the first members of the 4AD family to share their stories on the podcast. While the label’s rich musical heritage punctuates much of the conversation, the general focus is much broader — with Lovering’s discussion of his love of metal detecting an early highlight.

Founded in 1980, 4AD would go on to become one of the UK’s most influential indie labels — regarded for a distinctive visual and sonic identity and a reputation for quality. After shaping the dream pop subgenre via artists like Cocteau Twins and This Mortal Coil, the label championed underground American rock bands like Pixies and The Breeders in the ’90s. In the ‘00s, bands like TV on the Radio were at the forefront of a guitar music revival in New York, before Grimes, The National, Future Islands and Dry Cleaning have come to define the label’s roster in the present.

‘4AD Forages’ is available for download via a variety of podcast listening platforms.
