The Store X presents: Strange Days – Memories of the Future
Strange Days: Memories of the Future is an immersive exhibition presented in collaboration with the New Museum and British music and arts enterprise The Vinyl Factory. It brings together the video and film installations of twenty-one different artists, all of whom have exhibited at New York’s New Museum of Contemporary Art in the past decade.
The production features a labyrinthine display of audio-visual works displayed across three floors of The Store X, an iconic Brutalist building located at 180 The Strand, London. The works presented are experimental by nature, often evoking a dreamlike quality with a strong focus on sound and music.
“An uncanny sense of estrangement permeates the works on view, conjuring a kind of technological sublime that is both hypnotic and ominous.”
One memorable presentation is Pipilotti Rist’s kaleidoscopic video 4th Floor to Mildness, which is projected onto the ceiling and viewed from a series of beds. Other highlights include Jonathas de Andrade’s short film O Peixe (“The Fish”), which captures a made-up and paradoxical fishing custom in Northeast Brazil, and the meditative, tri-screened Vertigo Sea film by John Akomfrah.
Strange Days: Memories of The Future runs until December 9, 2018.
