The Encounter

‘The Encounter’ is an adaption of the 1991 novel ‘Amazon Beaming’, based on the real-life encounter between Loren McIntyre, an American photographer, and the almost unknown Mayoruna tribe of the Amazon Rainforest. Simon McBurney, artistic director of the theatre company Complicite, grabs the audience’s imagination and plays on the feeling of solitude within the Barbican’s vast theatre space. Presented through individual headsets, the audience experiences an intimate performance of sound applying binaural techniques that meld traditional story-telling with innovative technology. A sonic landscape is created by sound designers Gareth Fry and Pete Malkin, transporting you to the remoteness of the Amazon jungle in this extraordinary one-man show.
